How to Jumpstart Your Morning and Better Your Day

How do you start your day? Do you press snooze five times? Walk your dog? Check the weather? Exercise? Have a quickie? Pull on your pants and run out the door?

Do you want to improve your morning routine? If not, consider it. Your morning routine sets the tone for your day: the better you start, the better your day.

There are tons of articles out there about what your morning routine should be. But we’re all different and ultimately you have to find the routine that works best for you. You have to figure out what you want to get out of your mornings, then try different routines to see what improves your life and what doesn’t.

Despite the multitude of morning routines and morning routine articles, there are certain activities that show up in almost all of them:

  • Re-hydrate with a glass of water and eat breakfast. Here are some great ideas for easy, healthy, and make-ahead breakfasts.
  • Prepare everything you need for your day the night before. Keep them in a place where they’re easy to spot: keys on hooks, phones charged, clothes chosen (or at least thought of), lunch packed. Need a reminder to do all this? Simply set an alarm in the evening.
  • Wake up at the same time each day. Hate alarm sounds? Here are some apps that play music on your alarm on Android and on iPhone (make sure you switch songs every once in a while, otherwise you’ll end up hating it!)
  • Do something that makes you happy, even if it’s just for a few minutes. Listen to music, do a puzzle, play with your pet, anything!

  1. Love this! My wife and I were just talking about starting a morning routine for our 7 year old because we are big believers in the Miracle Morning and seems like we are missing the boat by not doing affirmations with her to get her day going like we do ours.

  2. I’ve heard about morning routines and have wanted to start one for a long time, but I think your post tipped me into actually beginning, so thanks 😀 We’ll see how it goes. I’m still unsure about what I’ll do, but it will probably be something small and simple so that I can make it a habit. Maybe doing some yoga.

Do you have any advice? What’s your morning routine? Thanks
(btw: I like a lot the theme of your blog, since mine is related to that same idea. Continue posting, I’m interested)

    1. That’s great! My advice is to try things out. Small and simple is the best way to start. It’s what I’m doing right now.
Drinking water was the easiest to implement because I wake up thirsty. For exercise, I do a plank hold and some cat-cow back stretches. I do word puzzles at times while eating breakfast. I find that sometimes it depends on how I feel when I wake up. If I’m in a bad mood, meditation and exercise work best. Motivational career podcasts are great for the drive to work.
Thanks and all the best to you!

      1. I drink water every morning, since I always wake up feeling like I spent a month in the Gobi desert, so that won’t be too hard to implement. I’m decided now: I’ll try doing some yoga or light exercise, and start listening to podcasts too. Thanks again and I’m eager to see your next post!

  3. That was a rather interesting post; However, I have tried to wake up at the same time each day, but could not do it…But I do exercise my brain with these simple things such as typing games and word searches. May I wish you the very best of luck in your blog, and be sure to check out mine, Dream In Music, at! With 💗-JW 😁
